Witnessing a Transformative Impact

2025-03-16

Yesterday, We had the privilege of witnessing the transformative impact of three strong organizations—Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Autocomp, and Urmee—coming together to empower women in Shinde Village. The 90-minute drive to this remote location was more than worth it when we saw the enthusiasm of the participants—some even in their 70s—attending classes after finishing their farm work and evening chores.

This initiative, “Literacy as a Service” (LaaS) by TCS, goes far beyond basic reading and writing. It includes financial literacy and awareness about government benefits, ensuring that these women are not just literate but also empowered to make informed decisions.

Tata Autocomp’s TASL has partnered with TCS and Urmi to identify and train dedicated preraks (trainers) who are running these literacy centers, ensuring sustainable learning in these communities.

Hearing real-life impact stories was truly moving:
✅ A woman proudly shared that she now signs documents at the bank instead of using her thumbprint.
✅ Another participant refused to put her thumb impression while voting, confidently stating that she can now sign her name.
✅ The most inspiring moment? A group of women came together to demand access to education and even stopped a wine shop in their locality—showcasing the true power of literacy.

Some highlights of the event:

Seeing the pride and sense of achievement in these women reaffirmed why initiatives like these are crucial. When knowledge empowers, it creates ripples of change.

A big shoutout to my team Anjali Hate, Dhanshri Nagargoje, Atul Kokane, and Dolly Rajwani for being part of this experience. While Dinesh Kothawade and Rhishikesh Wagh couldn’t join this time, their efforts in training the trainers at TASL have been invaluable.

This is what Purpose for Life truly means—impacting lives through knowledge. Proud to be part of an organization that drives such meaningful change!
